Julia Hulme
Julia Hulme, Artist.
I studied and gained a degree from Exeter College of Art and design in 1988 specialising in Printmaking and Ceramics. After Graduation I started producing artwork for reproduction for greeting Cards, Prints, Textiles, House Wares and a few more. During this time I continued to make Ceramic Sculptures for my own interest but this has established itself as a business in its own right and my work is exhibited at Galleries throughout the UK including Scotland and Ireland. I have recently started to produce a number of popular examples in Bronze resin which also provides new opportunities and a base from which to build Sculptures into postures that cannot be achieved in Clay because of the nature of the material. In 1996 whilst staying with Service friends in Norfolk; we inadvertently discovered the home we had been seeking for some time, not only offering an idyllic rural location but provided this in a thriving village community. My most recent works have all been inspired by my surroundings and I enjoy sculpting the familiar forms of animals both from my own menagerie and living wild in the surrounding countryside. I like to emphasise their character, humour and individuality. I have always loved to draw and still include this as part of the process adding texture and colour to my work with diverse materials such as Hessian, string and mats to leave an impression in the base material. My present work includes Garden sculpture; hand built up in Clay and finished to permanently Rust ! We continue to develop our home and skills; Julia Hulme March 2006
