Beekeeping Display and Observation Hive The Honey Pot is the concept of beekeeper Tony Maggs who brings a real live observation hive to our shows. Tony has kept bees for over 20 years and now has over 2 million of them in his 50 colonies which he keeps in Derbyshire. The hive he brings to the show allows the public to observe the bees in their normal natural environment in total safety as the bees use a specially adapted entrance tube as they enter and leave the hive. Watch the Queen bee who is the mother of all of the bees - her job is to lay eggs, whilst the worker bees collect pollen and nectar. If you look carefully, you will be able to see the honey and pollen stored in the honey comb cells made from the bees own wax. Near the centre of the hive, you'll be able to see the brood area, where you can see the eggs, larvae and sealed brood developing at all of its stages. Complementing the hive, Tony also brings lots of information and pictures about his passion, plus an array of items for sale, including honey, beeswax products, candles and leather cream, plus a range of health products as well. ![]() |
